A proposed so-called trolleybus route network ‘optimization’ calls for replacement of the most popular Lines 1 and 5 with diesel buses by December, 2016. Trolleybus services via the central segment of Sovetskaya Ulitsa, Entuziastov Boulevard and Moskovskaya Ulitsa will be suspended. The remaining trolleybus lines will carry minimal ridership. It is suspected that city’s authorities are planning to phase out trolleybuses altogether. Please sign

Acting president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev proposed construction of a tramway line in Samarkand. The new line should be built between Siabskiy Rynok and the Sartepa apartment block development. Mr. Mirzioyoev also advised to develop a network of future tramway lines with consideration of practical passenger needs. The first segment of the network is to be opened for the Navruz Holiday celebrations on March 21st, 2017. A rapid construction schedule is not unusual for Uzbekistan.
