Informacije

Turin is a city in Italy, capital of Piedmont region, 4th by the population after Rome, Milan and Naples, one of the biggest industrial and economical centres of Italy. Public transport consists of railways served by two large stations (Porta Nuova and Porta Susa) and others, a metro line, a bus and tram network which covers all the city and suburbs.

The tram network opened in 1871 with horse traction, in 1897 was electrified.
At present following routes are operated:

3 Vallette — Corso Tortona
4 Via delle Querce — Strada del Drosso
7 Piazza Castello (historical ring route, operated on Sundays and holidays)
9 Piazza Stampalia — Torino Esposizioni
9/ Piazza Bernini — Juventus Stadium (return trips extended to Porta Nuova station) (route operated on match days at the Juventus Stadium)
10 Piazza Statuto — Corso Settembrini (on Sundays operated between Piazza Statuto and Piazzale Caio Mario)
13 Piazza Campanella — Piazza Gran Madre di Dio
15 Via Brissogne — Piazza Coriolano
16 Piazza Sabotino (ring route)
Sassi-Superga (rack tram)

Future plans:
— construction of new line 12 connecting Juventus Stadium to city centre and south
— extension of line 15 to the future university campus in Grugliasco suburb

Also many interurban tram lines operated until 1958.

The trolleybus network consisted of urban lines which ran in 1931-1980 and two suburban lines: Turin-Chieri (1951-1979) and Turin-Rivoli (1955-1979).

Subway (metro) opened in 2006 and consists of the only line:

M1 Fermi (Collegno) — Bengasi

A new line section from Fermi station in direction of Rivoli town, with 4 stations (Certosa, Collegno Centro, Leumann, Cascine Vica), is under construction.

Electric buses began serving some bus routes in 2003.
