In this video we visit Victoria Gardens, a shopping centre in Richmond that is mostly known for being the location of the Melbourne city IKEA store. Victoria Gardens is served by the popular Route 109 tram and is the eastern terminus of Route 12.
Filmed at stops 24 (Victoria Gardens) and 25 (River Boulevard), we see a mixture of A Class and C1 (Alstom Citadis) trams on Route 109, and A Class trams on Route 12. We also see route 12 trams use the Victoria Gardens turnback adjacent to stop 25. Route 12 is one of the newer tram routes in Melbourne, beginning service in January 2014 when the former route 112 (West Preston — St Kilda) was split into two routes; route 11 (West Preston — Docklands) and 12 (St Kilda — Victoria Gardens). This bought extra services along Victoria Street and took pressure off this section of the busy route 109.
