Rather surprisingly, this tram was new at the time of shooting, of the 2025 construction year.

For me, it remains difficult: it's not really a new tram. In the end, an old tram was delivered to build this “new” tram.
Personally, I would never expect that in 2025 they would still be investing in this type of renovation or construction...

They are even driven by pedals, not by hand controller. Prague is in many thing unnecessarily traditional

I think this is normal. Technically, the vehicle is no longer a real PCC. The original vehicle, a Tatra T3, was a PCC derivative. Moreover, the Tatra factory had obtained a license to build PCCs. One of the typical features of PCCs was indeed the pedal control.
A lot changed during modernization - think of the brakes and suspension, for example - but pedal control remained the same (to my knowledge) everywhere.

The fact that this type of vehicle is still being built or modernized in 2025 proves that the original concept from 1935 - 90 years ago! - and what the Tatra factory in Prague built some 30 years later was not only innovative, but also apparently excellent.

It's viewed as outdated, other cities have them with hand controllers.

No, it is more convenient for drivers than having a fleet with two types of controllers. Many of them think that pedals are quite comfortable

I made a survey in Prague drivers group and almost 80% of drivers prefer hand controllers.
