A 'short' single tram operates on Route 5... Well, I guess ridership is no longer an issue on Calcutta trams.

What was the headway (interval) on Route 5 when you visited?

The interval was different, they only run in morning time till 10:30AM. After this time, trams go to Gariahat into Depot and come back in later afternoon.
At my first day there were three trams ins service at morning nearly each 20 min. (This was an exception that was never experienced again at following days)
But next days they run irregulary between 30-90min. Also at evening mostly one tram in a hour run on line 5.

Between 11/13:00AM and 4:00PM sometimes no tramtraffic was seen in Kolkata at no one of last three lines.

Thanks for the info. Hard to say whether this is an improvement, or not. In April 2023 there were 5 daily runs on Route 5 operating every 2 hours.

It is questionable, the tram never ran the same on any day. This means that no passenger can plan a trip and looks for other alternatives.
I received information from 2023, but was disappointed this year that even less ran...nothing for many hours.
But it looks like the city and police now want to stop the tram completely. :-(

This is a sad story, indeed... What a wonderful system, but no local appreciation for trams.

That's true. Many years ago it was a great system. But now it's just an irregular obstacle to traffic. There is information that a tourist route is to be preserved. But I don't know where.
