What is the rational for a 2-car train operation on the Line 4 these days? COVID? Special events? School trips? I only see kids in this photo.

Whenever I visited Gotha before, 2-car trains operated for special occasions only.

Since the last timetable change in December 2021, one 2-car train has been in use all day Monday to Friday, also in holidays, unless the vehicle is in revision or broken.


In the old timetable, the 2-car train was only in use until 8 a.m. and was replaced at the hospital. The 2-car train was back in action in the afternoon. So now, there is no daily exchange at hospital.

Thanks for your response. I see in the schedule that the Line 4 is operated with 4 trams, only 1 of which is a 2-car train. Yet the headway (the interval) between runs remains the same.

I suspect that the 2-car train's slot in the schedule is calibrated to serve runs that are most popular with school kids. This photo supports the theory, I see mostly kids inside the tram.
