Trolleybuses do not operate since January 2017. The overhead is partially dismantled due to construction works. The overhead reconstruction and acquisition of new trolleybuses are planned using EU funds.

The new trolleybus line via Voinov-Internatsionalistov Ulitsa opens. The new Line 11 opens operating between Mikrorayon Medtsentr — Vokzal via Petrusya Brovki Ulitsa, Voinov-Internatsionalistov Ulitsa, Chernyakhovskogo Prospect, Lenina Ulitsa, Kirova Ulitsa.

The trolleybus yard on Novoryazanskaya Ulitsa (the former Depot 2) ceased operations spelling closure of one of the oldest trolleybus facilities in the city.

The trolleybus Lines M7 & M7K (formerly 63) close. Diesel buses will be operated instead. Thus only two trolleybus lines now remain in the city center within Sadovoe Koltso — the lines via Bolshaya Polyanka Ulitsa and Bolshaya Yakimanka Ulitsa.

The tramway operation in the city begins. The new 7,4 km-long line between Sekapark in the west and Otogar (the Bus Station) in the east with 11 stations opens. A heritage tour tram of the RVZ-6M2 type starts operation via the Line 2 following 8 years after removal of this type of trams from service. The general tour ticket price is set at 209 rubles, 100 rubles for students, 300 rubles with food included, the ride is free for senior citizens and children younger than 7 y.o. The tram will operated Thursday-Sunday between 10:00-22:00 hours.

The "new" date for the trolleybus system closure is set for October 31st, 2017. The overhead dismantling is set for November, 2017.

Trams received new fleet numbers 1001-1013. The rest of the vehicles are not renumbered as of yet.

The U3 extension opens between Friedrich-Ebert-Platz and Nordwestring.

The new trolleybus Line 22 opens between Universitet and Entuziastov Ulitsa;
The Line 7 that previously operated between Universitetskaya Ulitsa and Agregatniy Zavod is suspended, the trolleybuses are reassigned to the Line 22;
The Line 9 operating from the Airport is extended to Krasnaya Ploschad via Lenin Prospect without a detour via Gagarina.
The Line 21 operating between Universitet and Meditsinskiy Tsentr is rerouted via Michman Pavlov Ulitsa and Moskovskiy Prospect.

Trolleybus Lines 1, 8 & 8A are suspended. The Line 9 is extended from ZKO to Kuybysheva Ploschad. Selected runs via the Line 12 are rerouted to Zheleznodorozhniy Vokzal (the Main Railroad Station). The number of vehicles operating the Lines 9 & 12 is increased at the expense of the former Lines 1, 8 & 8A.

The suburban tram Line 41 is replaced with diesel buses between Łódź Chocianowice Ikea — Pabianice due to poor condition of the infrastructure. The city of Pabianice announced a tender for an emergency work on the overhead.

All 12 TrolZa 5265.03 Megapolis trolleybuses have been delivered. The new vehicles are undergoing night trials in operation both under the overhead and in auxiliary power mode. It has been reported that upon a sample 25 km. run with air conditioning and all lights on, the batteries were discharged 40% of the nominal total. It is assumed that the units will be numbered 21-32 in correlation with the TrolZa factory numbers 88-99.
