8 Veljača 2020 god.

Ранее объявленные планы перестроения троллейбусов Designline в дизель-электрические гибридные автобусы были официально заброшенны. Троллейбусы были приобретены частным лицом и теперь выставлены на продажу на аукционном сайте trademe. Цена начинается от 10 000 новозеландских долларов за единицу.

The last day of operation of trolleybuses. New Zealand's new Minister of Transport Phil Twyford declined to intervene on saving Wellington's trolleybuses. The Wellington trolleybus system is now closed.

13 Lipanj 2017 god.

The "new" date for the trolleybus system closure is set for October 31st, 2017. The overhead dismantling is set for November, 2017.

1 Ožujak 2017 god.

The "new" date for the trolleybus system closure is set for July 31st, 2017.

22 Kolovoz 2016 god.

The "new" closing date for the entire trolleybus system is set as June 30th, 2017. Bids for dismantling of the entire overhead are announced.

As per information from Wellington trolleybus operator NZ Bus, trolleybus service in the city will be extended by 6 months — until the end of 2017.

2 Studeni 2015 god.

The trolleybus network is set to close in 06.2017. Despite rumors that the network will be closed in segments, which appeared following the closure of the Line 5 to Hataitai in 09.2015, there will be no further partial closures, and the network will close at one time as a whole. Trolleybuses continue to operate on weekdays only.

The trolleybus Line 5 to Hataitai closes.

Троллейбус закроется в 2017 г. по мере выработки подвижным составом своего ресурса. Основными причинами закрытия являются: дороговизна обслуживания электросети, до 6 млн. NZD в год; необходимость дорогстоящей реконструкции всей электросети, не перестраивавшейся 50 лет; сложности с изменением маршрутов в cлучае необходимости объездов; постоянные поломки дорогостоящего подвижного состава. 60 троллейбусов Designline MK-IV поставки 2007-2008 гг. собраны фирмой DesignLine с использованием запчастей от старых машин и электрооборудования бразильской фирмы Eletra Industrial. Стоимость каждой машины составила NZD450000 (US332000).
