On 31.03.2025, a trolleybus ran for the last time on the route from Neuhausen, centre, to the Herbstäcker terminus. The route was cancelled because the overhead line is being dismantled due to construction work on Klettgauerstrasse. It is not possible to run in battery mode, as there is already a section without overhead lines before Neuhausen, centre. To continue the journey, it is now necessary to change to a diesel bus in Neuhausen. In the evening and on Sundays, when the bus only runs every 20 minutes, only diesel buses run on the entire route. Once the construction work is complete, trolleybuses will no longer run in Schaffhausen.

The operation of the system is still preserved, but in a shortened form. Trolleybuses are planned to be completely replaced by electric buses in 2026. For this purpose, the city has ordered 6 Irizar articulated electric buses.

The Schaffhausen trolleybus will be discontinued in 2026. The reason for this are extensive road works on the cantonal road in Neuhausen and Schaffhausen, which would allegedly have made it necessary to relocate the overhead line, which would not have been economical for a remaining period of 3 years.
