STEFER — Società delle Tramvie e Ferrovie Elettriche di Roma: Other public company controlled by the city of Roma (acquired in a second time) that operated the suburban tram network and the narrow gauge railways to the "Castelli Romani" (the Roman Castells). The first was close for the suburban network in 1965 and the last urban tram ran in 1980 when started the operation with the A line of the metro, and for the second the last part is still running betwnen Termini and Centocelle. The STEFER operated also the Roma Lido railways , the B line and controlled the SRFN, company that owned the Roma Nord railways. It ran also the bus suburban network in the region. STEFER became 1976 ACOTRAL and then COTRAL but from 2000 COTRAL ran only the bus network and a new company (Met.Ro.) was in charge for the 2 metro lines and the 3 local railways. From 2010 with the merge all the network is run by ATAC. From 2022 the Roma Nord and Roma Lido are back under COTRAL operation.
