Trolleybus Factory

In 2025, the Pyongyang trolleybus system has seen a significant change, with three routes being converted to electric bus operation, in the lead up to the Party Foundation Day parade. Further conversions are likely on the way, with the trolleybus factory working on the conversion of older Chollima 091 trolleybuses into electric buses, as depicted in the KCTV news report.

Outside of Pyongyang, trolleybus systems have seen a few positive developments: the commuting trolleybus in Sinhung was revived in 2024 after being mothballed since 2017; Sariwon also received several new trolleybuses in 2024; Hamhung and Chongjin have also both produced new trolleybuses.

Pyongyang, Троллейбусно-ремонтный завод [Trolleybus plant]

The Pyongyang Trolleybus Factory has started producing a new articulated trolleybus design. The last articulated trolleybus was built in 2018. From 2018 to late 2022, it was producing the Chollima-321 at about 20-30 vehicles a year.
The chassis technology is likely similar to the Chollima-091 (which is based on the Ikarus 280)

The new design has been showcased in various exhibitions since 2021:

Пхеньянский троллейбусный завод приступил к выпуску сочлененных троллейбусов новой конструкции. Последний сочлененный троллейбус был построен в 2018 году. С 2018 года до конца 2022 года завод выпускал «Чоллима-321» объемом около 20-30 машин в год.
Технология шасси, вероятно, аналогична Chollima-091 (которая основана на Ikarus 280).

[10] in this photo is not a trolleybus: it has a charging bar on its poles, instead ending in the current collection heads.
This makes it the second electric bus in the DPRK (after https://transphoto.org/vehicle/520909/)
It is also the first vehicle to be equipped with mechanically raised poles.
