https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazar%C3%A9_Funicular

Unfortunately the manufacturer of the cable cars is not known.

I were there this summer, and I rode on this cable car. I found the manufacturer's plate, but I forget the manufacturer's name. And I did not take a photo of this plate. I am sorry((

The manufacturer of cars is Maschinenfabrik Esslingen, the same as for the latest equipment installation (2001-2002).

Nope, Maschinenfabrik Esslingen no longer existed as a manufacturer of the relevant equipment at that time

Well, technically Maschinenfabrik Esslingen holdings dissolved in 2003, while rail-related equipment was done under the Daimler-Benz AG umbrella, however irrelevant ) But you are right regarding the Nazaré Funicular, and I apologize for quick and sloppy research. Only the first generation vehicles and equipment had been done by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen.

Regarding the second generation vehicles and equipment dating from 2001-2002 rehab, the research was surprisingly complicated. A deeper dive yielded conflicting results in a few languages. However, a summary looks like follows:

The rebuilding of the funicular was done under the umbrella of Sociedade Portuguesa de Automóveis e Transportes S.A. Local participants were Portuguese companies Transtejo and Companhia Atlântico. However, cars were manufactured by Frey AG Stans from Switzerland, but it looks like the design was done by the Italian AGM group. From 2017 Frey AG Stans was acquired by Doppelmayr, hence the cars are often cited as Doppelmayr's products.

Interestingly, on 15.02.1963 there was an accident on the Nazaré Funicular similar to that of Gloria Funicular in Lisbon in 2025. Back in 1963 the main cable snapped, resulting in 2 deaths and 50 injuries.
